Today I cooked something resembling carbonara, but not exactly with the right ingredients, so I'm calling it a carbonaralike(like roguelike lol).
I've actually never cooked a carbonara before, but I saw a cooking video where they did exactly that and I thought that I could make something similar with the few things I have in my fridge. So I took my cheap pasta (a 500g bag cost me 23 euro cents!) and boiled it until al dente, then I set the pasta and some pasta water aside and moved onto the meat.
I had some ham leftover, so I cut it into tiny cubes and put it onto the frying pan. While the ham was sizzling away on the pan, I separated the egg yolks from the whites and whisked them a bit with some pepper.
Then I moved onto the cheese. The only cheese that I had was cheese that you would put on a sandwich, so I used that. The problem, though, was that the cheese was pre-sliced, so I couldn't grate it.
Instead, I sliced the cheese into teeny-tiny pieces and put it onto the pan along with the pasta, pasta water and egg yolks. I mixed it for around 1-2 mins until the egg-cheese sauce became nice and creamy.
Finally, I put some onto a plate, sprinkled some more pepper and then had a taste. It turned out pretty good!
I enjoyed my carbonaralike while watching the 2nd season of The Apothecary Diaries. It's a really good show! It's essentially a mystery that is accompanied by court politics and I'm a sucker for these things, so the show is right up my alley haha~
